Custom Envelope Printing Methods — Overview

Choosing the right custom envelope printing method depends on your design, quantity, and budget. We offer three primary printing methods — each suited to different use cases. Our team will recommend the most cost-effective option for your specific envelope order.

Offset Envelope Printing — Spot Color & Full Color

Offset printing is the industry standard for custom envelope production at scale. Ink is transferred from plates to a rubber blanket, then to the envelope — delivering crisp, consistent results across thousands of units.

Offset — Spot Color (1–2 Colors)

Pantone-matched ink for logos, return addresses, and simple brand marks. Best for business envelopes with logo printing. Most cost-effective at quantities above 2,000. Consistent color across the entire print run.

Offset — Full Color (CMYK)

Four-color process for photographs, complex artwork, and rich brand designs. Full-bleed printing available — color runs edge-to-edge on the envelope face. Premium results for premium brands.

Inside Envelope Printing

Print patterns, security tints, or messaging on the inside of the envelope. Ideal for custom security envelopes and premium brand experiences that surprise the recipient upon opening.

Digital Envelope Printing — Short Runs & Variable Data

Digital envelope printing eliminates the need for printing plates — making it ideal for short runs, variable data (each envelope printed with a unique address or code), and fast-turnaround projects. No setup fees, but a higher per-unit cost than offset at scale.

Envelope Finishes — Foil Stamping, Embossing & UV Coating

Beyond printing, custom envelope finishes add tactile and visual distinction. Each of these post-press techniques can be combined — foil stamping over an embossed logo, for example — to create a truly unique envelope that elevates your brand above standard printed mail.

Foil Stamping

Heat and pressure transfer metallic foil onto the paper surface. Available in gold, silver, copper, rose gold, and holographic. Creates a reflective, premium finish that catches light and attention.

Embossing & Debossing

Raised (emboss) or recessed (deboss) designs pressed into the paper. Creates a 3D tactile texture you can feel. Popular for monograms, logos, and premium stationery.

Spot UV Coating

A glossy clear coating applied to specific areas of the envelope. Creates high-shine contrast against the matte paper surface. Ideal for highlighting logos or design elements.

Matte / Gloss Lamination

A thin plastic film bonded to the paper surface. Adds durability and water resistance. Available in matte (subtle, premium) or gloss (shiny, vibrant) finish.

Custom Envelope Printing FAQ

What’s the difference between offset and digital envelope printing?
Offset uses printing plates for consistent, high-quality results at scale — best for 1,000+ pieces with lower per-unit cost. Digital requires no plates and is ideal for short runs, variable data, and fast turnaround — but costs more per unit at higher quantities.
Can I print my company logo on envelopes in full color?
Yes. Full-color CMYK offset printing reproduces your logo, brand colors, and any artwork with excellent accuracy. We also offer Pantone spot-color matching for precise brand color reproduction. Standard placement is upper left corner; full-face printing is also available.
How much does custom envelope printing cost per unit?
One-color logo printing typically adds $0.02–0.04 per envelope at 5,000+ pieces. Full-color offset adds $0.05–0.10. Digital printing is higher per unit but has no setup fee. Foil stamping and embossing add $0.06–0.20 depending on coverage area. Request a quote for your specific project.
What is foil stamping and is it available on custom envelopes?
Foil stamping uses heat and pressure to transfer metallic foil onto the envelope surface. Available in gold, silver, copper, and holographic finishes. It’s ideal for logos, brand names, and decorative accents on premium envelopes. MOQ starts at 500 pieces.
Do you offer peel and seal closure with printed envelopes?
Yes — peel and seal (peel & stick) closure is available on virtually every envelope style we manufacture, including custom printed envelopes. It’s our most popular closure option for business envelopes. No moisture needed; fast, clean, and professional.
