What Is an X-Ray Envelope?

For non-imaging applications a 250–300 g/m² stock is sometimes acceptable, but any envelope that will hold exposed film should be built on 450 g/m² kraft. The interior (the side touching the film) must be smooth enough not to scratch the emulsion, and the whole envelope must hold a stack up to 0.7 cm thick without the flap gapping open and admitting light.
Identification Data Printing
Every x-ray envelope carries printed identification data spaces — blank fields the radiographer fills in so a film can never be confused with another patient’s. The standard layout places two data blocks on the front face: one in the upper-left corner and one in the upper-right.
